Chicago Tribune’s Ask A Builder

Each week New Homes Marketplace asks questions of area homebuilders. Pat Curran, president of West Point Builders, answers this week’s questions.

Q: How do you keep up with the latest building trends?
— Tamara, Bolingbrook

A: Keeping up with current trends in homebuilding as well as contributing to continuing innovations in home and community design is an important part of my approach to my profession. I attend builder shows, read industry publications and have a network of friends including some of the top professionals in the building and planning industries around the country. We share ideas that help to inspire the new ideas that result in more beautiful, practical and consumer-friendly homes.

Q: What type of warranty do you offer and who do I contact?
— Kendall, Northbrook

A: West Point Builders offers a comprehensive 10-year Builder’s Limited Warranty on every newly built home. This warranty is written, insured and administered by Professional Warranty Service Corporate (PWSC), America’s largest new home warranty company backed by one of the industry’s leading, highly rated insurance providers, Steadfast Insurance, a member of the Zurich North America Group.

The first year of coverage includes workmanship and materials. Also, two years of coverage include major systems “inside the wall,” with coverage starting at closing. During years three to 10, structural elements are covered, warranted as determined by the Construction/Warranty Standards. Buyers like the strong, written document, transferrable when the home is sold. Buyers have no deductibles on claims, with expert customer service. West Point Builders’ buyers will not only have a quality-built home but also strong warranty protection for years to come.
