Debbie Petschow was looking for a ranch-style home that would be suitable for her mother, who lives with her and has had some medical issues. As the owner of Montgomery-based Brian and Sons, Inc., a full service heating and air conditioning company, she has extensive industry experience and had designed her previous home.
“I knew exactly what I wanted when I began my home search, and I knew that I would make some structural changes to the design,” she said. “I had drawn a ranch design that would have bedrooms separated by the living area so Mom and I could have our privacy. I wanted to include volume ceilings, a three-season room and a setting that would overlook water.
“Many builders do not want to make structural changes so I was delighted to find Ashcroft Place and the Cedarcrest ranch which was well-suited to our needs. In our discussions, I found that West Point Builders would willingly make the changes I outlined,” she said.
The Cedarcrest ranch includes three bedrooms and a study, two full baths, open concept living area with a spacious family room, kitchen with peninsula overlooking the family room and breakfast room. The home also includes a covered porch, spacious foyer, formal dining room and study.
The master bedroom is on one side of the home and includes a large walk-in closet and private bath, while on the other side of the living area are two bedrooms, large bath and laundry room.
“I opted for volume ceilings with can lighting, French doors with arches opening to a three-season room with views of a pond, a half wall instead of a full wall to further open up the staircase to the full basement, wood floors throughout, 8-inch granite backsplashes to complement the granite counters and 15-foot counter in the kitchen, a handicapped shower for Mom’s bath, sink and cabinet in the laundry room, hot tub pad plus wiring, drain and other preparation for exterior lighting and irrigation. The final design was beautiful and ideally captured my vision,” she said.
The building experience was heightened by the rapport established with the West Point Builders staff.
“I was impressed by the quality craftsmanship and the construction team put into the home, Debbie said. “Everything was done right by people who care. The sales staff was great to work with, and no change that I asked for was a problem. Their attitude was ‘we can do that’ with every change. I feel that the staff members have become friends.”
